I've had my first Miele vacuum (a S2121 Capri Canister) for one week now. WOW! I absolutely love it. My husband can attest to my perpetual smile when I'm vacuuming.

We desperately needed a new vacuum because our baby is on the move--and our Hoover specialized in spitting out rather than sucking in. I had never heard of Miele until I started researching consumer reports. Admittedly, I was a little skeptical that it's as great as everyone raves, but now I'm a total believer, and will recommend it to everyone. I don't sneeze when I vacuum now! Novel idea!! Plus, it's lightweight, QUIET, and great for any job. Thank you for introducing the Capri to the market. It's perfect for our low pile carpet and hard floors. Not only that, but we're pleased with the price.

I don't normally take the time to sing praises for my purchases, but frankly, it wouldn't seem right not to let you know what a satisfied customer I am. Thank you!

After long research, I chose the Miele Pisces a year ago. This is the first vacuum I can really say that I love. It's light and has great power. I have mostly bare floors and 3 - 5 long haired dogs in the house at any given time. It it doing great, except the turbo brush just doesn't work well any more despite a thorough cleaning. If you have rugs, you need something else or a power handle Miele.

We had a Miele Flamenco (entry model) for 10 years that finally weakened due to 10 years of Collie hair. The dogs are now gone (RIP) and we impulse bought a Dyson, which was possibly the worst move of my life (negative review in my review section.) Whereas the Miele is light and powerful, the Dyson is clumsy and powerful, twice as heavy, cheaply made (wheel fell off, hand extension won't retract fully), and the attachments were always falling off. I love that the Meile has a foot switch to suck up the chord (Dyson's are old-school, wind it yourself.) All the attachments are in a little cubby in the front of the unit, and the bag is twice the size of our last Miele. It was worth the money loss to get a Miele again. It can get under practically anything, it's powerful but not too loud, and it's looks pretty cool to boot. I expect it to be around 20 years from now, 15 if we get more Collies.

The two best features of this vacuum is that 1) it really sucks and 2) is is really quiet about it. What more can one ask of a vacuum cleaner? ;-)

I bought it because it was the cheapest vacuum I found that could take a true HEPA filter. The fact that it was much quieter and had a more powerful suction than my 20-year old "3 hp" Eureka canister vacuum was frosting on the cake. The rug beater seems to do a good job on carpeting, but like the previous reviewer I wish they'd included a floor tool.

This is a great vacuum. I thought long and hard about spending $1,000 on a vacuum. It was NOT an easy decision.

5 Stars for the vacuum itself but looses a star due to the attachments.

PROS:

The vacuum itself is great. Powerful suction, low noise (much lower than any other vacuum I've ever heard) which makes it less annoying to vacuum, the auto-power feature works well (remember, it's the amount of air flow that counts, unless your trying to pick up a bowling ball) and it's less strain on the motor, I definitely noticed the REAL HEPA filtering on this vacuum, no smell an no dust blowing around.

CONS:

The ergonomic handle is OK when using the floor attachments but makes dusting shelves and other items difficult when using the attachments. It is also bulking making it difficult to get under and around items. Their solution is to purchase the car cleaning kit or the micro kit at $150 - 175. For $1,000 it should have the option to remove the ergonomic handle. This would have been helpful.

Overall I'm happy with the purchase because I have bad dust allergies and no other vacuum has had real HEPA filtering. I decided my health was worth the expense.

I loved all aspect of the vacuum machine except overheat problem. Whenever I used it, it lasted only about 15 min and overheated and then stopped. So I returned this machine to Amazon. I am gonna buy a new one from a local store to see if the problem occurs again. If not, there is no reason I do not have it.

I recently purchased the Miele Calisto vacuum. I have a very thick rug and could never find a vacuum that worked so well. I also have 3 cats, 2 of which are long haired. This vacuum does a fantastic job in getting the cat hair out of the deep pile of the rug. It has unbelievable suction.

The only thing I really am having a little trouble with is the weight of the powerhead. I had shoulder surgery a few years ago and it really is a little difficult for me to handle. It's very heavy. Also, the power cord is way too short. It could use at least another 5 to 10 feet of length. I have to keep changing outlets numerous times to get my entire house vacuumed and I don't have an especially large house. It's about 1500 sqare ft.

Other than the few complaints I think it is well worth the money and would recommend buying it.

I received my new Miele Callisto today. I must say it works better than any vaccuum I have ever had. My only problem is that after spending $900 on a vaccuum, I would think I could get a operating instruction booklet specific to my vaccuum. Not true. I was sent a generic booklet for the 5000 series. Most of the pictures and instructions do not match. In fact, if I had not already had a canister vaccuum of a different brand, I would not be able to figure out how to put this vaccuum together or use it. But, I gave it 5 stars because it's a really great vaccuum.

Quality is good and matches the vacuum quality but the engineering is bad.

The problem: there should be an adapter to attach the accessory

to the main hose not the vacuum itself.

You should be able to add the carclean accessory to the hose

wthout having ti disconnect the main hose.

Then adding to the carclean hose would be a snap.

I got a great buy on this on ebay to go with my S5280 Callisto.

The turbo brush is the best I've used.The 10 ft hose and long crevice tool is great for cleaning and dusting in the house as well as the car!

I use the micro hose and tool for my pc key board too.

So glad I got the kit!

I purchased this set to complement my Miele Red Velvet. This set contains the Hand Turbobrush (STB 101), an extra long crevice tool, micro-hose with combination nozzle, and a 9-foot extension hose.

I bought this specifically for the Turbobrush because I have 3 long hair cats that shed constantly. Having the air powered Turbobrush was the principle reason that I purchased the Red Velvet. The Turbobrush accessory is fabulous for removing cat hair from upholstery, drapes, bedspreads and box spring dust covers. I also use the Turbobrush to remove cat hair from my faux mink bedspread. It saves me from having to take this bedspread to the dry cleaner on a monthly basis. The Turbobrush is an invaluable accessory for your Miele canister vacuum, in my opinion.

The longer crevice tool is great for cleaning radiators and behind furniture that is too heavy to move. I find that I use this more often than I expected to. It is useful for getting in between the cushions of my leather furniture whose cushions are sew in place. It is also nice getting dust off the top of baseboard trim, where cat hair tends to collect in my house.

The micro-tool is nice for getting into the little crevices on car trim (air vents, etc.). It is also nice for cleaning laptop keyboards and the air handling grates in the house.

I would highly recommend this accessory to anyone that owns a Miele canister vacuum. I find that I pull this accessory out of the closet at least weekly to keep ahead of the cat hair that my three little Turkish Angoras generate each week.

It looks like our Miele has finally died. Its only a couple years old. It also had many problems along the way and I got to be an expert at taking it apart and fixing it. The head in particular does not seem to be reliable, that is where most of the problems have been. The main shaft on the head is also improperly designed, the wires running down the shaft make it prone to clogging and it is very hard to take apart and unclog. On the plus side the vac does have a lot of suction and it is quiet.

I bought the Miele Capricorn S5980 based on a number of glowing reviews from others who bought one. They were right. It's very expensive and not for everyone, but I am impressed and how well built it is and cannot say enough about how well it cleans my carpets, wood floors and even by the baseboards where nothing I've owned has cleaned very well if at all. It was shipped promptly and the service was great. While I doubt I'll need another vacuum cleaner, I would definitely buy another Miele Capricorn.

I bought the Miele Capricorn after reading all the great reviews on Amazon. My last vacuum was falling apart and had the terrible vacuum smell that comes from owning a dog. Most of the reviews for this vacuum are glowing. I don't usually write reviews, but because my experience with this vacuum is completely different, I decided some consumers might benefit from a different perspective.

The Pros: Very quiet. My 100 pound Labrador used to take off running (and look out!) when I took out my old vacuum. This one is super-quiet and the dog stays put. I love the HEPA filter system as there is no smell (and especially no doggy smell) when vacuuming. Automatic cord retractor is great. A light goes on when the bag is full and needs to be replaced; the controls on the handle. These are all great features. Like most German products, it's designed to last.

The Cons: I've always had upright vacuums before and I can't seem to get used to the canister - I don't find it as efficient, and I find the swiveling handle annoying - it always seems to be in the way. Because I have a dog who sheds non-stop, I use the hose attachment a lot, to get all the dog hair from around the baseboards and under the cupboard edges. For the cost, I feel the Capricorn attachments are poorly designed. They are small, and the round brush attachment is awkward to use. I have all hardwood floors and the large hardwood floor attachment ends up just pushing around the dog hair, without really picking it up, so I have to use the power head without the brush running.

With my old vacuum, I would just pull out the hose and vacuum around the edges of the house, without using any attachments. You can't do that with the Capricorn because the edges of the metal wand (not sure what to call it) are very sharp and can scratch the floor. I actually put a nick in the electric cord when I accidentally knocked it with the wand. Because the wand is metal, it is very heavy and I end up with a backache after using it (during dog shedding season, I vacuum my house twice a day using the wand).

I paid extra for the bigger power head. It has a very bright light on it when you are using the carpet-brush feature. If you are using just the power head without the brush (suction only), the light doesn't go on - not sure why that it. However, the light must be an LED light - it is very bright, with a blue tinge. If your house is dark, it's a great feature when you're vacuuming, but if you are using it during the day, it makes it very difficult to see.

Back to the dog again - I was able to use my old upright to vacuum the dog bed. I would stand with a foot on each side to hold it down, and vacuum up all the hair. The Capricorn power brush is so sensitive it immediately shuts down if it catches even the tiniest wrinkle in the dog-bed. I have a few area rugs and if I get the power head near the edge of the rugs, it always catches and shuts down.

This was a very expensive vacuum. For the most part, it's well-built (I would not say it is particularly well-designed), but it just doesn't work for me, which is why I am only giving it two stars.

Overall the vacuum is great. Does a fantastic job cleaning. Only criticism is the cheap lightweight plastic hose that's lack of mass makes it unwieldy.

I understand that a lightweight hose makes for a lighter vacuum, but when you're trying to vacuum a table top or curtains near a table top, the hose springs off in a direction that's bound to knock over a few things.

I've had mine for about three years. The only defect that has appeared recently is a short in the swivel connection between the hose and control handle. As soon as you wiggle it the machine comes back to life. Annoying but I can live with it rather than replace an expensive hose.

I do all the vacuuming in the house, so I wanted a quality vacuum that would make vacuuming as fun and as little work as possible.

This vacuum is worth every penny. It is extremely powerful and quiet. We have two big dogs and this picks up the hair no problem. Our red carpet looks like new each time we vacuum. There is no "vacuum" dust smell that I have hated about other vacuums. Best of all, this has to be one of the quietest vacuums on the market. You can talk on the phone or whatever while vacuuming it is so quiet. Also, this vacuum is small and lightweight, which makes vacuuming easy and makes it easy to get under things and into tight spaces. The controls are easy to use, it has about 7 power settings, and the height is easily adjustable. The power brush has an automatic jam shut off that protects the belt if something gets jammed in it. It has not clogged once by the way... Changing the bags is super quick and easy and not messy in the least bit. The small attachments store conveniently in the top of the canister and are very practical to use. I love the retractable cord which is super long and retracts perfectly every time. It has many other practical, thoughtful features that you will appreciate each time you vacuum. Those Germans thought of everything with this vacuum! Plus, if you have allergies, this vacuum is one of the best for that with its excellent air filtration abilities.

I am very pleased with my recent purchase of the hose to replace the same hose on my Blue Moon Miele vacuum.

It solved the problem I was having with my vacuum. It was turning itself off as I was vacuuming for no reason and it was constantly doing it, so it was very frustrating to vacuum. I believe there was a loose connection in the hose and the only way to solve it was to replace it. The hose is performing perfectly since I got it and I am very happy with it. I was not happy about the fact that I had to replace it though. I think that a vacuum that cost over a thousand dollars should work perfectly for 20 years or more before parts are wearing out!! I have an Electrolux that worked perfectly for 20 years before a small part had to be replaced in it, so I guess I was spoiled.

I bought this vacuum because I have two dogs and found I am allergic to dog dander. This vacuum has a sealed system and it doesn't have the leaks that other vacuums have around the exit system filters. It has a Small HEPA filter that gets replaced every four bags(and comes in the box of 4 bags). It has a very hefty charcoal filter as well just like a room air cleaner(replaced one a year). It doesn't reciruclate the dustmite feces back in the air. It captures it. After the first use the house smelled better because of the charcoal filter as well. It has great suction and picks up the hair far faster than my old Electrolux. I can't say enough about how much we like this vacuum.

It came with three cleaning heads. The carpet with the rotating head, the regular hardwood floor head (fits great right up to the walls and corners) and picks up everything. It also has a small rotating handheld head that is great on furniture and stairs.

It is a pricy vacuum. It was worth every last penny of the cost. We already had a Meile dishwasher that is now 6 years old and running the same as the day we bought it. So far this vacuum has the same quality as the dishwasher. The phrase you get what you pay for is very true. This is a quality company.

Recently I bought the Miele Cat and Dog S516 canister vacuum and have been thrilled with the results thus far. With 4 cats, this vacuum easily handles both long- and short-cat hair with ease. In addition, I replaced the clean air filter (which is standard) with the hepa exhaust filter (which is optional)to reduce the allergens and have been extremely pleased that the exhausted air from the vacuum actually smells fresh leaving the room smelling really clean. Also, this vac is very quiet to run and easy to move around the room with its smooth wheels and long outlet cord. The only downside to getting this vacuum is its price at $799 + tax. But, if you have pets, want a quiet, lighter weight canister vacuum that leaves your rooms smelling fresh and clean, this vacuum is well-worth the money.

I haven't used this vacuum very long but I have to say, the attachment included for the bare floors is way too large to be functional. They do have two other more normal floor attachments on the site but when you spend basically $800 for a vacuum, you don't want to have to buy additional attachments ($50/$70) just so you can clean your bare floors. I like that it is quiet, hopefully it will last longer than the Kenmore's I have been buying for years, time will tell.

Miele is the best vacuum! If you have pet hair, you NEED a Miele S516 Dog & Cat. I have four cats, and one has long hair. I had a hair problem until I got my Miele about 6 months ago. Don't bother with the cheaper vacuums, they aren't worth the money.

I can't tell you how fast you can finish vacuuming using this new design bag, no odors, no missing dirt or hairs anymore, what a difference, used to take me over 1 hour to go through the whole house now it takes me less then 15 minutes, the suction is greatly improved, my kid's room has a very thick rug, some of the dust would stick to it... normally I would have to go over and over the rug with my vacuum cleaner, to get the visual dust of the rug, sometimes I would have to get down on all four to get some of that dust by hand... not anymore ...what a difference a simply good design has made. Before that I was thinking of getting a new vacuum cleaner with a greater power, guess what, not a chance...Buy those bags and save plenty of time to get the job done right...and instead of HEPA filter I use the one for odor control Miele Active Air Clean Filter (For Odor Control) - S300/S400/S500 Series ...very pleased

I'm not a fussy housekeeper, but I have a cat with soft short hair that merges with the fibers of our oriental carpets, and her fur fuses with dust balls becoming a weighty floor cover on it's own... And I had been using a Hoover vacuum upright, using the crevice tool and going over the carpets in small areas (taking about 2 hours to vacuum).

With the Miele Bolero Upright there is enough suction that I do the carpets in 10 minutes and the floors in about 40 min (whole house). It's easy to shift from the upright to the hose and tools. My husband says it has headlights! I m totally happy with the vacuum; it's worth the cost! Only concern for some might be that it has too much suction so that small bits (screws, rubber bands, etc) get sucked up before you can bend down to pick them up!

Well, I've only had this baby two days now, but I have to say it's been interesting. For 15 years now I've owned nothing but Kirby vacs, and the last one exploded on me last weekend. I nearly called Kirby for a new one, but every Kirby I've owned has cost more than a grand, and I was tired of paying that much for something that smelled so bad.

Hubby wasn't around when the Miele arrived, but I was able to get the thing out of the box, put it together, and figure out how it worked without him -- a point in its favor already. And included was a well-written user's guide -- how cool is that in this era of impossibly bad writing?

The thing is heavy, without a doubt. I foresee developing some triceps after using it for a while, but that's not a bad thing. I love the swivel head -- it's more maneuverable than any upright vac I've had before. And the design screams efficiency. The Kirby had more attachments but they were in a box out in the garage, untouched. This one has all the attachments built into the body of the vacuum, easy to access and use. I used two of them the first day.

The long cord was a plus -- I had an extension cord permanently attached on the Kirby, but this one doesn't need it. Plenty long enough for my 1500-square foot house. The motor is much quieter than the Kirby -- didn't even have to put the dogs outside when I used it. They just stood and watched it, unlike the Kirby which made them all bark frantically and try to attack it. And finally, no bad smell. No matter how often I changed bags on the Kirby it stank. This vacuum doesn't smell. Maybe it's the additional filters, maybe the special bags -- I'm not technical enough to know. I just know it doesn't stink. But it does suck! Very nice both on suction and air flow; even used it to dust a ceiling fan.

Here's looking forward to a long and happy working relationship.

This is a great, versatile, very maneuverable german vacuum. the versions without the digital power display, i.e., with the analog nob, probably are just as good, though i never saw one in real life to try one. the only danger is the little step-on lever to release the upright: it can cut your foot quite good as it has a sharp plastic edge on it, and it's a bit oversized.

no regrets on this purchase,e ven though pricey, because it just works very well and will last many many years. probably would get the analog dial though if i were giving a gift of such.

Never thought I would be thrilled to get a vacuum cleaner. This one has everything you could want -- it cleans GREAT, it is amazingly quiet, the HEPA filtering is top notch, the controls and the tools are convenient, the power cord reaches forever, the materials used in this machine are built to last, and on top of all of that, it looks gorgeous (I know, I know, it's a vacuum!).

My one and only reservation was that it was on the heavy side. This reservation was quickly allayed when I actually used this Miele upright at home (the dealer kindly lend it to me to try at home.) The maneuverability is phenomenal. No more plowing forward and backward to move a couple inches to the left or right. Just twist your wrist and the vacuum swivels and turns on a dime. It's *amazing* how much effort this saves!

I compared this vacuum to the Sebo Automatic X4 and the Sebo Felix. The X4 is the noisiest of the bunch, and it doesn't swivel (which both the Felix and the Miele do), although it is a solidly great machine. The Felix is the lightest, and it swivels, but is the only one that doesn't have automatic height adjustment, a feature that lets you vacuum right over throw rugs without the vacuum eating the rug.

Price-wise, the Felix was about $100 less than the X4 which is about $120 less than the Miele Bolero.

I ended up selecting the Miele because overall it had every useful feature and was the most convenient to use.

I like the size of the Sebo Felix, but it was a little too fussy (too many parts that come on and off) and the hose didn't have an extension, so I couldn't reach the cobwebs up high.

Any one of these three would be great to own. The Miele is just a little ahead in terms of features and convenience. Oh, and about the high price: I am replacing three (crappy, smelly, loud) old vacuums (Hoover, Kenmore, Eureka), and if you add up how much they all cost, I would have been better off getting the "expensive" Miele to start with. I expect it will last a very very long time.

I have used this vacuum for a month now. It is very quiet compared to my old Eureka. There is NO exhaust odor and my carpets are in better condition now than ever before! This vacuum is a joy to use. The swivel neck navigates the vacuum very well and with the carpet brush toggle on, the vacuum powers itself forward. Vacuuming with the Bolero is a joy, not a chore. I vacuum 3 times as often as I used to. The floor toggle lifts the roller brush allowing me to vacuum my rugs and non-carpeted floors very easily without worry that I will damage them. The long power cord means I only have to unplug and move the cord once in order to reach everywhere in my apartment (1220 sq feet apt). The ability to control the power of the suction is a great added bonus. The lower the suction, the quieter the vacuum becomes. I also like that the tool extension is aluminum. The tools themselves fit snugly into the back of the vacuum out of the way but always there. Again, this is a well designed vacuum. (I am an Apple fan and like Apple products -- this vacuum appealed to me because of it's great design as well as it's ability to just get things done well.)

To address what the first reviewer noted, the power cord gets a little bit warm but not worrisome. My laptop gets warmer. My old vacuum cord got warm too. The exhaust is also warm, but I've never had a vacuum that didn't have warm exhaust so other than commenting that it is warm (not hot) there is nothing I can add here.

The vacuum feels and looks well designed, well built, and sturdy. The slower ramp up power on motor is nice and seems well built and long lasting.

The only difference between this model and the 2 other models in this line, besides price, is that this model is in black rather than color and is lacking the hepa filter alert light. I write the date on the filter itself as the manual suggests.

I purchased this model locally because I wanted to test drive this and the Sebo. The dealer took $100.00 off and added a free hepa filter replacement, a box of bags, and 5 years of free maintenance service.

I am thrilled to have a nice looking, great working vacuum that I actually want to use.

Vacuum continues to be a pleasure. My 2 favorite things, still, are the quiet and powerful motor, and the swivel neck. I often turn the vacuum off accidently when trying to change carpet to floor, but I also enjoy the smooth ramp up of the motor... this really is a quality machine. I am also ever grateful for the upper cord winder clips after breaking my ankle (boot makes it hard to stoop) and with my growing age it's just easier to not have to stoop or bend after cleaning for a few hours.

I absolutely love Miele vacuum cleaners, I've owned two over the last six years (recently moved countries, had to re-buy due to different voltage). I found out how amazing they were when I borrowed my neighbors, back in 1992, the suction was so amazing it lifted the wall-to-wall carpeting off of the floor...that was it, I had to own one! Awhile ago I purchased a box of the FJM HyClean bags, I have used a couple of these bags problem free --- today I opened the canister to retrieve an object accidently vacuumed up and found the canister filled with dust and dirt, the bag clearly having come dislodged from the hose at some point. What a mess. The red plastic fitting was bent, that never happened with the old model bags. I am sharing this with you because the very same thing happened to my girlfriend with her brand new Miele and it's HyClean bag. These bags suck! I reported my observation to Miele's Problem Solving Customer Support here in the US and they have generously offered to send a box of AirClean bags to replace the HyClean. They have also asked for a follow-up on the performance of the AirClean bags, claiming the fitting is different and I shouldn't have any problems. I think that's fair to good customer service. I hope Miele resolves this design challenge, the machine and bags are pricey, and for this investment I expect terrific performance.

These newly redesigned bags do not fit my red velvet properly. They do not stay in place, so as you vacuum the bag comes out of the bracket and gets sucked into the compartment. All the dirt and dust then enters and can enter the motor. If it wasn't for the filter it would have. Took it to a dealer and they couldn't do anything. They called Miele and they said to use the airclean not the hyclean because the design was bad. Well I have used both with the same results. So now I will use the generic bags. If it isn't broke don't fix it. The old style bags worked fine why change?? When I called Miele their answer was to send a box of the same bags I'm having a problem with.

I purchased these replacement bags for a Miele S514.

The quality of the material is very good at stopping dust.

However the new product revision includes a smaller collar to attach to the vacuum and a flap door to keep the dust contained is a bit of a waste as when the vacuum's hose is detached (while in storage) the hole to the bag is open anyways, which could leak dust. The vacuum itself should have the flap on the body of the vac, it's pretty pointless on the bag.

It was quick and easy to install, but the bag is so small I may still resort to emptying and reusing the bag(s) due to its expense.

I purchased a very similar model to this one. I am in Canada so mine is called the S4 Momentum (S4512). I opted for a different floor brush (the parquet twister) and the air driven carpet brush. I had a top of the line Kenmore which was 6 years old and working at full power. The problem? I would vacuum and turn around to see dust settled everywhere not long afterwards. The entire family has been wheezing and coughing for months. Something had to give!

I took my new Miele out of the box, assembled it (super easy job) and set to work. 6 hours later, the entire house had been vacuumed like it had never been vacuumed before!!!! Wow! The vacuum is not more powerful than the Kenmore. It is just so much better designed. The bag compartment is sealed. The bag seals around the incoming hose. There is a bag compartment filter and, for extra clean air, I went all the way and purchased the HEPA filter with charcoal to reduce odours and the compartment that holds it is also sealed.

It's all in the tools and the dust this vacuum does not leave behind. The parquet twister floor tool is wonderful. It gets right up against the baseboards. Then, with only a slight twist and a lift, it vacuums the baseboards/moldings with ease, fitting into all the little nooks and grooves. It lies flat to reach way beneath furniture and the telescopic wand makes the reach easy. The extra comfort afforded by the wand handle design is also a nice perk. The little duster brush that comes standard on all the machines looked small at first but its design is also impressive. It bends at a joint to form an angle that makes vacuuming above door jams and shelves, etc. super easy. As an added option I bought the flexible crevice tool (53 cm long) to reach into the furnace filter area. What an awesome tool! It also reaches into the floor vents and costs only $14 CDN.

Since it was my first pass I set the machine to maximum suction and now will likely leave it at the medium setting (which it automatically reverts to each time I power it back on - a fact that annoyed me at first but I'm happy with now that the big job is over).

Bottom line.... it has been 4 days since I vacuumed and I am happily disappointed that the dust has not settled back onto the surfaces of my home. Disappointed? Only because the vacuum is so much fun to use, I want to pass it again! This vacuum is quiet, strong, stylish, and does what it is designed to do. It does not suck up the dust to spew it out the back. It sucks up the dust and seals it into the wonderfully designed bags which have a little trap door on them so that you never come into contact with the dust. When the machine is opened, the bag's opening shuts and it it bye bye dust and dirt forever!

Also.... we have a jack russell terrier who sheds like a maniac. The curtain/upholstery tool has two strips of the material that is on those hair removal tools that you run on your slacks. They work beautifully on our couches and furniture. We have hardwood floors mostly. If you have a few pets and a lot of carpets, spend a little extra to get the Miele that has a power driven carpet brush or AT LEAST, leave that option open as the attachments are expensive BUT SO WELL DESIGNED. I am confident, once we break out our area rugs for the winter, that the air driven carpet tool will be fine. Will report back later if this does not end up being the case. It worked great on the basement carpeting but the dog does not go down there.

If anyone in your family has breathing problems in your home, look no further than the Miele. (S4 model #'s or S5 - the S2 compartments are not sealed to trap the dust to the same extent and you may be disappointed).

I hated vacuuming before and so I wish you all..... Happy vacuuming!

I purchased from ABT because no one could match the $399 price tag and free shipping they were offering. Everyone else had this vacuum listed at $579(I wonder if ABT made mistake?). The Miele Eclipse is perfect for my 1900sq ft. house. I have hard floors except in the bedrooms. I bought the Miele SBB400-3 XL Parquet Twister Floor Tool. It's 16 inches wide and the suction reaches to the edges(suction power is outstanding). It covers a lot of area fast. I bought the 10ft hose extension to add to the current hose. I hardly have to move the vacuum in each room. It's like having a central vac. I have brick floors so no vacuum rolls good on my floors. Although this vacuum rolls better than any other vacuum I've tried. It's quiet even on full power compared to any other vacuum. I also bought the miele accu nova rechargeable power head. It does very well on carpets and the batteries last longer than I imagined. It comes with two batteries. It took me 3 to 4 times of vacuuming 3 bedrooms with carpets before the one battery dies. I like having the rechargeable head because the hose is lighter due to no wiring. The only complaint I have is that the miele should include one of the parquet attachments with their vacuums. A must if you have hard floors.

The rug beater head of my 30 year-old Eureka Ironsides finally broke and I decided it was time for a new vacuum. After some searching, I decided on this Miele Eclipse model and have been very pleased with it. It is significantly smaller, lighter, and far more quiet than my old vacuum

I used to use the rug beater on the carpet in one room only as I have oriental rugs elsewhere. I found the Miele suction to be so good that a beater was not needed. The Miele floor/carpet combo head works well with the oriental rugs and the bare wood floor.

The electric cord is a few feet shorter than on my old unit and might be longer. One welcome change is that there is no odor being spread about while vacuuming. The bag and filter do their jobs quite well.

I read a lot of reviews from other folks who had purchased Miele machines. Coming from a Hoover bagless with powerhead, I was worried about the extra cost of the Miele, the bags and the lack of powerhead. However, most of my vacuuming is hardwood or tile and what little is carpeted is not a worry. People remarked about the quality of the Miele motor and they were not kidding. Its very powerful and VERY quiet. I need to open the vent on hardwood, otherwise the head will suction to the floor. Its very light, moves easily, the cord retractor is quality and I like the "park" feature. All in all, this Vac is an investment in quality. Shop with confidence.

I SO wanted to love this vacuum. I don't:

1) cord too short to reach across my living room (and I don't live in a big house)

2) like my other miele vacuum, the bag-full indicator is not to be believed - it seems to register half full even with a new bag; same problem on my first miele, I called the local dealer - he said it's a common problem, doesn't know why miele keeps the feature because it never seems to work right and people think there's something wrong with the vacuum when it's really just the indicator.

3) I'm really not rough with it, but the vacuum tips over easily; I'll be vacuuming along and realize somewhere along the line it flipped over

4) I love the smooth-sailing floor brush - BUT, the same bristles that seem to make for smooth gliding across the floor also make it nearly impossible to vacuum off the kitty fur that sticks to the bristles (or else the vacuum suction just not powerful enough?); also, I use a pellet kitty litter, and no matter how hard I try to convince myself that the vacuum picks up the pellets, it mostly doesn't - unless I remove the floor brush and place the wand directly over the pellet or else swivel and swivel the brush until the pellet is accidentally sucked up.

5) speaking of the metal wand - when you pop off the floor brush, you can't really use the bare wand to reach into corners or along gaps between wall and furniture - the bare metal edge scratches my hardwood floor - so you either have to hold it off the floor or plug on an attachment - all of which are too short to reach, for example, behind my refrigerator.

6) I find it really difficult to release the wand pieces - have to hold down the button and pull for all I'm worth (and I'm not a wimp!); but in contrast, the release between the wand and the hose is exactly where you want to grip the handle and it frequently releases when you're not trying to release it.

7) the lovely easy-glide floor attachment unfortunately is too thick to reach under my couch - or any other piece of furniture, for that matter; the equivalent brush on my old miele fit under just fine. Don't vacuum manufacturers understand that we don't just vacuum the bare floor of any empty room or a 9x12-foot rug with no furniture on it, etc.? real world - we need to be able to vacuum under, around, over...

8)I got caught up in the miele mystique when I bought my first one - it's the brand Martha Stewart uses (oh, how she's lost her shine in my eyes over the years - but of course not just for her vacuum selection!), in Willims-Sonoma, etc. I wanted another electrolux (mine lasted 25+ years), but was told the company was sold and quality no longer good. but my first miele has only lasted a few years - first the power attachment died, then the latch that connects the two parts of the wand broke, then it just died. I decided by the time I drove to the dealer, paid for repairs, etc., that I might just as well buy a new one. I think I paid $800+ for the first one - so at least it doesn't feel so bad to have unwisely spent $500. on this one.

9) turning it on takes me three or four tries with my foot - I still haven't figured out the secret of making it start on the first press.

10) on the positive side - it is an attractive color; everyone comments "what a pretty vacuum"; I try to hold my tongue and leave them with an intact illusion of loveliness.

11) I do like the 360-degree-turning wheels and hose connection.

12) but overall? sorry, miele - I won't buy another; fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me, fool me three times - I'm apparently a really slow learner.

I see $300-ish Panasonic canister that will be my next try at finding the vacuum of my dreams...BTW, amazon prime is a wonderful thing - at least it doesn't take long to know if you like what you ordered. I remain an amazon fan, lo these many years...

I have a long history with one vacuum which joined us when we married. This Sharp upright was recommended by a leading consumer magazine some two decades ago and performed well when we had a 1,800 SF home of mostly carpet.

The upright became a problem 4 years ago when we moved across country into a condo with 50% laminate floors and tile bathrooms. Time to replace. Leading consumer magazine really did not offer any good choices. Too many users found the Hoovers, Dirt Devils, and Kenmores the magazine recommended to be junk. $100 to $200 vacuums appear to now be 12 month throw aways. These vacuums are now 14 or 16 amp and are very loud.

So, after losing any interest in the ratings from the consumer magazine, I cruised over to Amazon and started reading vacuum reviews.

I found these Miele vacuums with user ratings above 4 stars across the line and no other brand rated the same.

I ordered the Neptune as it included the turbo tool which we need for area rugs.

I rate this vacuum 5 stars as I could not be critical of a light weight, quiet, multi-mode vacuum. There are six power options, the cord retracts, the wand extends, when she finds the right button, we installed the HEPA filter, the hose and wand vacuum our ceiling air ducts, the ceiling fans, the window valances, and the wheels turn on a dime.

Miele is a German brand who also produce appliances. The vacuum has a 7 year warranty. Find another brand who prides their equipment longer than 12 months, at the most.

You can read all of the wonderful reviews on this vacuum and they are true, however there is one dissapointing issue. I bought the vacuum with the powerhead/turbotool attachment. This is only powered by the suction of the vacuum and is not very strong. It works well on my area rugs with very low pile, but in rooms with carpeting the results were not too impressive. The turbotool roller is slowed by the carpet and, although it picks up dirt, it does not clean very well. If you vacuum frequently it should be fine, but as for anything other than loose surface dirt, you may be dissapointed.

This brush is the main reason I invested in a Miele vacuum cleaner. I have cats, so fur and tracked litter are always a problem. The machine I bought didn't come with this brush, but I was able to exchange the one that came with my machine, receiving full credit toward the purchase of the parquet brush. It maintains contact with the floor, even when twisted to fit under furniture or into tight spaces. It is outstanding! This brush is amazing.

We recently purchased a Miele Olympus, which comes with some pretty bare-bones synthetic-bristle tools alongside it.

Because we have 2000 sq ft and 99% of it is hardwood floors or tile, I knew immediately upon trying the synthetic floor brush that comes with the Olympus, that it was just not going to do. The customer service representative had me try this one, and it is perfect. Period.

This brush is a simple affair. The edges have horsehair bristles, which glide smoothly across floors. The bristles alternate from short to high all the way around, allowing them to suck dirt, dust and gunk of all shapes and sizes with relative ease. Well, you have to pick it up and place it over leaves, but that's to be expected. The underside of the head is hollow, and functions like a dome/funnel up to the hose opening where the insane suction created by the 1200 watt vortex motor take care of the bulk of the action.

The range of motion the swivel head has is pretty impressive. It also has a short-range telescoping function in the u-curve, which adds more flexibility to this tool. The end result is a tool which is more manueverable, perhaps, than any other vacuum attachment you've ever used. It reaches easily into every nook and cranny around the kitchen, bathroom, underneath beds, sofas, around table legs. Basically, it does what you want it to, which is an oft desired feature of a product, and equally often a disappointing drawback.

I noted that many reviewers are displeased with the exclusion of this tool from their new vacuum. Because I bought the cheapest vacuum, it was no surprise to me, but I will add that if you buy from a vacuum dealer, you may get a discount. I did, to the tune of 75% on this one. If you would like to start off with a vacuum that comes equipped with this piece (and other superior tools) the Neptune @ $499.99 (note, this cannot be power upgraded) comes with the parquet brush and turbo brush and the Titan - $599.99 comes with this tool, and is equipped with the power wand/floor tool.

It's worth mentioning that this tool, like all Miele products, is made in Germany.

I have mostly hard wood and tile flooring. The parquet brush is so much easier to use than the combination carpet / smooth floor tool that came with my Miele canister vacuum. Can't recommend the Miele canister vacuums enough. After twelve years it still runs like new. However the dust brush that came with the machine was getting worn and the swivel head began to become very loose. Apparently Miele has come up with at least four new styles of dust brush heads. Each is very good for what they are designed for and this one is too. It it more suited to dusting small items or if you put your vacuum on low suction good for cleaning your computer keyboard.

Took a while to get to me, but it was worth the wait. I wish now we had bought the vacuum that was a little more and came with the hepa and this floor attachment standard. However, it was worth every penny and works fabulously. Only problem is when I have a floor runner, this is definitely not for carpets. I have to go one way only to get the cat hair up or switch to the carpet floor tool. That is a pain, so I just go in one direction over and over, so that it doesn't do this sorta 'flip' up on the pull back. Works for me on all my hardwood floors and the swivel head really turns any which way you need.

It's 16 inches wide and the suction reaches to the edges. It covers a lot of area fast. I also bought the 10ft hose extension to add to the current hose. I hardly have to move the vacuum(miele Eclipse) in each room. It's like having a central vac. This attachment is a must have in my book. My only complaint with Miele is that the smaller Parquet twister attachment should come with their vacuums. But being a guy I recommend the bigger one.

Okay, so it's hard to get excited about things like HEPA filters - or the vacuum cleaners and other devices they are used in. When my wife concluded her extensive search for a replacement to our old canister vacuum and anointed Miele the winner, I was slightly less enthusiastic than she. It's a vacuum cleaner. It's just a tool for keeping things trim.

After a very short while I began to understand her admiration for the design and build quality of this particular tool. The HEPA filters and bags used are no less a part of this than is the vacuum itself. If you tire of vacuums that are constantly gritty with the dust they stir-up but don't quite capture, get a Miele. If you distain the smell emanating from your vacuum's exhaust, get a Miele. If you long for a simple, easy to use and maintain system that even your husband will use, get a Miele.

Use genuine Miele bags, and change your HEPA filter as recommended. The difference in cost is minor, but you will be amazed at the difference in results.

I have never seen a vacuum cleaner adapter like this. The STB101 uses the vacuum suction to drive a rotational brush head. I was surprised by how much brushing force it generates. You mainly use the adapter to vacuum stairway, it's small and it's easier to manuver. However, it still cannot get to the small 1/2 inch strip along the edges. You can use the adapter for furniture upholstry also, but I would recommend it only for occasional deep cleaner. I'm not sure how furniture fabric can stand up to the rotating brush in the long run.

I have tried lots of different vacuums. The Dyson was so powerful it stuck to my carpet. I couldn't hardly push it. I called the company and they had me remove a piece but it didn't do much good so that vacuum went right back to the store. I usually end up buying the Eureka Boss and getting a new one when it wears out every few years. I just found a salesperson that convinced me to buy the miele and I totally love it. It is a bit pricey, but with a 7 year warranty it is about the same as buying a new Eureka every few years. Here are the things I love about it. It is ver quiet vacuum. I can vacuum during my babies nap or while the kids are watching the t.v. They just turn up the volume a few notches and we are good. It is lots more peaceful to vacuum with less noise pollution. The cord is really long so I can do lots of rooms if I strategically place my cord. I love the the switches are all on the handle so I can easily go from hardwoods to carpets without stopping and bending down. This is very nice for rugs and things. That has always been one of my vacuum pet peeves. I also like the long and easily accessible tube with the attachments that fit right on the back. Very handy. I could make it all the way up the stairs. The vacuum has good suction and does well on hard woods. I really like the color too. Red vacuums are sexy! It is not as wide as the Eureka, but it fits under things really well. It bends very far down to get under things too. It swivels so you can maneuver it easily. Hooray for a fabulous vacuum!

This is the best vacuum I have ever used. Forget Dyson repair shops back room is full of them. Quiet, never looses suction even when bag is almost filled. small 12" powered head fits under everything, and if you lay it flat all the back to wall under the couch, bed, dinning room table. It has restored my carpet that was once crushed pile. After several vacuums, my carpet looks new again. I notice less dust in the house now and the stairs are like new again. Will never buy another vacuum again. This one has all the features of the $1000 models, same motor, power head, etc. I actually enjoy vacuuming with this.

Received unit today, in person, not impressive to look at,doesn't look expensive and I guess for a Miele, it's not. All the power anyone could ever want, ever! Cleans like a demon,nice swivel action, pretty darn quiet too. Great powerhead and parquet floor brush. Hate the attachment to the unit for small tools, will be leaving that off. Cord is too short,I had read that, well they are right, by about 6 feet, hose also could be a foot longer, nice hose though. I have purchased maybe 15 machines to try and find one that does it right, this will be close enough, I maybe should have bought their top of the line to fix those few short comings.I am used to heaver older well made units, hate ones with bad hand feel, amazed it can clean so well. A keeper.

I was getting really tired of buying a new vacuum cleaner from Wallyworld every two or three years. When it was time to buy yet another one, I did some research online and discovered a world of expensive vacuums that I never knew existed. But did I want to pay that much? With Miele's reputation and seven-year motor warranty, plus more exhaustive research, [...], I decided to take the plunge. I never realized how well my other vacuum cleaners DIDN'T clean! No more exhaustively passing the vacuum over the same area over and over--this gets the mess up in one pass. I have pets and children (=big messes!), so I have to replace the bag every two weeks or so, but that's a small price to pay for such an efficient machine. I chose the Leo canister because it has a HEPA filter and a hard floor tool, which is great on the ceramic tile floor that makes up most of the flooring in my house. With just a little carpet to clean, the less-expensive SEB217-3 power head is sufficient for me rather than the SEB236 upgrade. It still cleans better than any of my old vacuums. And did I mention how quiet it is? It's not silent, but it's a whole lot quieter than I anticipated. The dogs and cats still don't like it, though :)

I've owned Miele kitchen appliances so I thought a Miele vacuum was a no-brainer. Adequate on rugs, carpets. Very poor function on hardwoods, tile. The exhaust from the HEPA filter blows dust and debris away from the front of the vacuum before it's able to be suctioned up. The only was to keep from chasing pet hair across the floor is to turn the motor speed to low and pull the handle down to the floor so the exhaust fan is directed off the floor. The handle is also very flexible with rotation and has split in half.

My Miele Neptune arrived yesterday. I like it...not as much as to fall in love though! Sorry Mielle lovers! Its a good machine just wished that all the settings at the canister were at the handle. Performance is good, but again not wow! Because of the reviews my expectations were very high. I like both the parquet floor brush and the turbo, just wished that they were two in one! But most importantly after reading the Turbo instructions it said not to be used on Persian Rugs! and that's the reason why I purchesed Miele. I wanted the very best vacuum for my Persian rugs and runners. I gave it a try however (put it on min), nothing happened the first time and performance was great...but dont know about the future. Bottom line, I am keeping it!!!

I spent a LONG time reading all the vacuum reviews before i got this vac. Especially since i have carpet, hard flooring and PETS. MUST have power brush for carpet and SO glad i got this model miele and did not cheap out. this is a great vacuum - great power, easy to move, good for hard floors as well as carpet - def need the power brush for carpet! I have VERY furry pets and it works great on picking up all the hair. vac bags are expensive, but very large and hold a lot of stuff. the only complaint is that it is so well made and durable that it is a bit heavy and because i vacuum like a mad woman - it is chewing up my pine molding around the doors a little when i drag around the corners and such. because of the heaviness i would not recommend it for elderly. otherwise everyone should have one - it is great!

This vacuum is more expensive but we have loved it. We use it on the hardwood and the carpet. It has great suction power that can be adjusted for what you are using the vacuum for. The canister rolls very well over both the hardwood and the carpet. The handle length is easy to adjust so that the kids can help vacuum. We also like that the tools are stored in the canister so that if we need an edge tool we don't have to go find it in the closet. We looked at a lot of vacuums. We really like the 7 year warranty and how light the vacuum is. It is easy to use on the stairs and in cars. We are really glad we purchased this vacuum.

I checked out several stick vacs before purchasing the Miele S163 but didn't see any that seemed to compare in quality. Great for hardwood floors, fine for small pickups on carpet. Works really well on stairs and is very quiet. However, the loop designed to hold the plug to the cord when it is wound for storage has too small an opening to allow the cord to enter. I just simply wrap the plug end around the wound cord. Beyond that would just be the expense.

This is my second Miele vacuum. I asked for this one for Christmas, and while none of my friends could believe I actually wanted a sweeper for Christmas, it was my only request. I bought this sweeper for our lake house. I wanted a smaller vacuum than the one at home but one which still had a motorized head. This works like a charm. It is pricey, no doubt, but my first has worked for 4 years with no loss of suction and no other problems, so I expect the same great performance from this machine.

I am an "old" woman and have owned numerous vacuums. Some women collect shoes, it was vacuums for me until I got these Miele machines. Now I am done buying vacuums and shoes are looking much more interesting!

When the hose split in 2 places on my 14 year old Miele, I did no research because I wanted another Miele - I've recommended the brand to anyone listening. I wonder if this vacuum is now manufactured by a different company? The S4 Carina is not nearly as good as my original (S2481) - the cord is at least a foot shorter (a real nuisance); the suction is vague and just skims the carpet; the new head is fatter and does not go under my furniture and to switch settings, the tab is too stiff for my toe, so I must bend down to switch from floor to rug (I have area rugs so this is no good) - fortunately, I simply attached my original head (the new one is relegated to the back of the closet) - which slides under furniture and can be "adjusted by toe". (though the suction is of course, poor). Maneuverability is awkward.

I resent that I spent so much money because I trusted this brand. If your vacuuming needs are limited to a small floor-only area, and light-weight is important to you, then if the price is right, this vacuum is fine. Otherwise, keep shopping.

My family and I have owned and used this vacuum for 5 years now. It is great for all hard floors and a bunch of short pile rugs around the house. It is so lightweight and maneuverable; in general way more useful than an upright. My 9 year old is able to help out it is so easy to use! It picks up all kinds of hair, fur, dust, dirt and small leaf bits. And not a spec of it comes back out in the vacuum exhaust! It was great with the standard bags, but we've upgraded it with the HEPA filter just in case. Given that and the sealed system, this is the best vacuum on the market for indoor allergies for the money.

We vacuum a 2000 sq ft home every week that is inhabited by 2 adults, 2 messy little boys and one furry dog -- this vac picks up everything we need it to and the bag lasts at least two months, notably with NO SMELL. (Take that you stinky Oreck in the basement waiting to go to Goodwill.) And yes, the 30 ft. retractable cord is pretty cool too! I am a very picky house keeper and this is the best vacuum we have ever owned both in performance and build quality.

This vacuum is a very well-built machine. I have to admit I haven't been very on top of my vacuuming lately, but so far I am very happy with my purchase. A power head for this vacuum would be great (I'm not used to not having one). I did purchase the rotator attachment for an additional charge. I think this should just automatically come with the vacuum. I have too much carpeting to not have it. I wouldn't have really known as much about it all if it weren't for reading the reviews on Amazon. It is definitely a very quiet machine and a great compact size.

I purchased this vac after reading reviews of how quiet it is, and was not disappointed. Our house is small (1000sq. ft.) , and though others say the cord is short, I can do the whole thing without unplugging. We have hardwood floors and only 2 small area rugs so the standard attachments are fine. I really like the carpet/wood floor switch on the top of the floor nozzle- easy & convenient. The hose is more flexible than the cheap plastic you find on most other vacs, and so is the cord. The wheels turn easily, so I'm not bumping into furniture or walls with the canister. The bags may be small, but the pet hair doesn't get stuck in the filters and clog everything up like on the bagless models I've had. It's pricy, but already outlasted its predecessor. Well worth the money.

We bought ours over a year ago and I love it more everyday. Quiet and powerful. With this vacuum you have to learn what settings work best for your individual needs. To me, that is the whole trick. We have hard floors with some wall to wall as well and two cats. Have had no problem getting all of the cat hair up at all. Also, there is no smell or particulate discharge from the effective filtration/HEPA system. My favorite feature is the way the hard floor head swivels so that you do not have to wrench your arms into different positions. 7 year warranty on all Miele's gives great piece of mind. In any case, I am now searching for my second Miele.

I read the essentially unanimous glowing reviews of the the Miele Antares and happily ordered it online, thinking I'd saved myself some time and how could I go wrong since it was even free shipping. This is a $500 vacuum, but the on-line consensus was that it is well worth it. I took the machine out of the box and my first impression was how cheap and utilitarian the accessories were. I was pretty surprised given the reviews and the price. I started it up and was dismayed at how ineffective it was picking up pet hair off our medium pile rug. Our $150 Hoover does better and I was replacing it because I decided I didn't like bagless feature. The beater brush on the Miele is air driven and is easily slowed down by the rug. That's a pretty serious design flaw, especially on an expensive machine. So not only is the beater brush ineffective, all that air resistance steals the suction from what is a rather small (but yes, quiet!) motor.

It took me all of 5 minutes to decide I did not want this vacuum, so I boxed it right back up, then began discovering why you should probably never buy a vacuum over the internet (unless you KNOW you will like it). First you have to jockey with the supplier for an RMA number. It didn't come automatically with an Email request, they wanted to interview me for the reason. Then comes the big ouch. You now incur 3 charges: you pay return shipping ($50), you forfeit free shipping to you ($50), and you pay a "20% restocking fee" ($100). So when all is said and done, assuming the return is actually accepted, I'm out $200 for the opportunity to test drive a Miele Antares. Your opinion may differ from mine and you may love this machine, but DON'T buy it based on on-line reviews or you are taking a BIG risk on your wallet.

I purchased this vacuum from BedBathandBeyond with a 20% coupon. It is very lightweight and moves around very easily, a great feature for me since I have arthritis. I have mostly hardwood floors, but it also came with a power nozzle for carpets, which works very well on my oriental rugs. The cord rewind is great and it stores upright and has a telescoping wand and a park feature, useful when taking a break. The suction is very good and bags are easy to change. Overall, a great compact vacuum, but make sure it comes with the power nozzle if you have rugs.

This is the stick vacuum I've been waiting for for a very long time though a history of many vacuums! It is built with quality, excellent design, workability, power, and flexibility. It is lightweight and easy to use(easier than a broom), and it has several varied accessory brushes you can purchase, including electrified power brushes. It comes with a HEPA filter. Miele cleaner was recommended to us. The wood floor attachment gets into every corner - it's incredible compared to the thing we had. The electric powered carpet head also works very well. Very pleased with the unit.

In trying to decide which model to buy. started at the Miele web site where they list features - such as the electric powered carpet head - included in certain models. However on the web I found different prices for the same model, and it seems that for any one model what different web sites include is not be the same - specifically for the model I bought, Callisto, there were several web sites advertizing that model but in the fine print they said it included the vacuum powered carpet head, not the far superior, and more expensive - electric powered head.

The unit we have is great - just be careful to check what some of the vendors are offering...

This is a great machine. We never knew our carpets were not clean until we used the Miele Callisto. It is small, light weight, easy to maneuver, quiet, and works well on stairs. The suction in the power-head is excellent and requires very little physical effort to run on carpets or wood floors.
Miele vacuums are quite expensive. We never intended to spend a king's ransom for a vacuum cleaner. We coughed up the extra money for this vacuum cleaner because American made products were rated so low. The quality we once expected from American made products just is not there anymore.

I used to think Rainbow was the best vacuum money could buy. Now I own a Miele. This vacuum is quiet and extremly powerful. Recently I moved into a Condo and lost my Rainbow to the X. I wanted something as good as the rainbow but the Rainbow was too loud for the condo. I like cleaning late at night. The Miele hands down has more airflow and suction plus it is silent. The loudest part of this machine is the powerhead (205-3) and mine is the model that turns by airflow, not electric. I am very happy with my choice.

I bought my Miele in 2007 and I have had no problems with it -- and it's now 2010. It works beautifully, is quiet, well designed, and easy to operate. Changing bags and filters is easy. Everything seems to easily click and lock into place. I can't think of anything negative.

Today, I called customer support because I thought I had a problem. Turns out I was just technically challenged and learned how to fix my problem after a quick, troubleshooting session with a highly personable, helpful, and competent agent. What a joy; this is how customer support SHOULD work. I would buy another Miele when this one dies - which doesn't seem likely anytime soon.

"Battery compartment broke, RF interference causing loss of suction" 2009-07-19

Initially, this vacuum worked better than any I have ever owned. Eventually I had to replace the remote controls battery and we broke the battery compartment like several other posters.

A piece of duct tape keeps the battery compartment in place.

Then the remote stopped working entirely. We had to use the vacuum in manual mode by pressing the reset button. It would work for a few seconds and then lose suction, dropping to its minimum suction, similar to other posters.
Finally, I diagnosed the cause of the broken remote and loss of suction - it is due to radio frequency interference from other devices in my house. Specifically, when my baby monitor is transmitting, the remote for my Miele not only does not work ,but the signal from the baby transmitter commands the vacuum to go to minimum suction. It also sometimes turns it on and off.

It is a shame that such a mechanically awesome vacuum is ruined by a cheapo remote control, especially when the remote control is not even needed.

The next model of this vacuum had better upgrade the electronics to be more resistant to RF interference.

I fell in love with this vacuum the moment I started using it. It was quiet, it maneuvered beautifully, and it picked virtually everything up. I felt uneasy buying such an expensive vacuum when my kenmore worked fine, but after using it, I thought, FINALLY, something for my money's worth. Well, 5 months later, the vacuum started losing suction and the power bar kept going to its lowest setting on its own. I changed the dust bag, thinking it was full (even though the dust bag indicator hadn't turned on, being one of its features), but the same problem. Then I thought it was the battery, so I opened the battery compartment, only to see that it was one of those tiny round batteries you'd have to buy especially for the vacuum. Going back to the operating manual, I read that I only had to change the battery once every 18 months, so I tried to close the battery compartment back up.,..to no avail. It just wouldn't close back properly! My husband tried to push the compartment back in, but even he couldn't do it. With a half-closed battery compartment, I called the Miele # on the manual. The closest local dealer is about an hour away, and it's not like they'd fix it on the spot. I'd have to drop it off, then pick it up. Packing the vacuum back up to ship it to the warranty center is going to take too long. I'd be without a vacuum cleaner for God knows how long???!!! I have 3 toddlers and 1 baby, and frankly, this is ridiculous. I can't believe I paid so much money for only 5 months of use.

Like many good but expensive things you really have to try one of these to appreciate the difference. Some years ago I couldn't justify the cost of a Miele so I bought a $400, top-of-the-line Eureka. It did everything 80% of the way. Got 80% of the dust, reached in 80% of the tight spaces...the cord even retracted 80% of the way.

If you're in the market for a Hoover, I'm sure it will do a decent job. But if you only want to vacuum that stuff once, consider the Miele which does everything well and is amazingly quiet, too. To quote Heidi Fleiss, "Quality is remembered long after price is forgotten."

"Meets my expectations" 2010-08-18

Here's what I learned when doing my research:

- Power is irrelevant. Any decent vacuum that is not a total piece of junk will have enough power. What sets Miele apart from the competition are other things:

- Noise level. The Miele really is significantly quieter than my previous vacuum. I live in an apartment with shared walls and could never vacuum at night. Now I can.

- Exhaust direction. I have hardwood floors and the fact that the exhaust of the Miele points UP means that it doesn't scatter dirt into the air like my previous vacuum cleaner. With my previous vacuum, I would do all the floors and then 30 minutes later it would be covered in dirt again once the dust settled. Not so with the Miele.

- The parquet floor brush is great for hardwood floors. Well worth it.

- Variable power. Being able to turn DOWN the suction power is actually very useful. For example, if you're vacuuming a door mat, you can just turn it down so it doesn't suck the mat up into the vacuum (like my previous vacuum did).
Here are the very minor issues I have with it:

- The power cord is a bit too short. I have to replug once to do my 700 sq ft. apartment.

- There is no way to know if the vacuum is in the on or off position when it is not plugged in. So if the power button got bumped while it was unplugged, then it might turn on the moment you plug it in next time.

- At $600, they could've included a simple pouch to store the powerhead and parquet brush.

- The box had a lot of empty space in it. So now I have to store a big box.

I waited until I owned this for 6 months before reviewing and I'm glad I did because now I have a real feel for its strengths and weaknesses. I use this 3x weekly meaning it's in and out of the closet a lot, so I can safely say that it is much easier to store than any cannister I've owned before (and I've owned a few Kenmores and Electroluxes). It does suck things up and I like the adjustable suction for area rugs and upholstery...this thing is powerful on full blast. A plus is that it starts up slowly, gradually building power and it is fairly quiet as vacuums go.

Can't imagine why anyone would call this "very, very heavy" even after reading the posters response to comments. This thing is light compared with similarly powered vacs (not the cheap lightweight ones that die in a year), and like I said, I've had plenty.

Now for the issues of this post's title:

1) I was told that this thing was so perfectly sealed that I would not smell the backdraft, which is patently false. I can still smell pet hair and the bags are so expensive I wait until they are more or less full to change them out.

2) The cord length is absurd. Like a previous poster said, if this is extra-long I wouldn't want to see the short version. Ridiculous...I now keep a 25 foot heavy duty extension with it.

3) The 3-wheel design may have worked conceptually, but it sure doesn't work when trying to move this thing from room to room. It tips over, catches on doorjambs, tips over...did I mention it tips over?

4) "On-board storage"...not so much. The smaller tools do fit on a small attachment that clips on to the hose base, but the wand with the brush attached is supposed to slide vertically down into a crevice on the back of the cannister between the cord reel and the power button; it is best to collapse the wand when doing this so as to better maintain the machine's balance, which is already suspect. The groove is already losing its tightness and the wand doesn't stay as upright as it used to...I can already tell this will become a major annoyance later when I can't stand the wand in the groove and it flops around the closet.

Overall, for the price, the deisgn issues should not be so glaringly obvious.

I have been doing the vacuuming of our 2 bed two bath florida patio home for the past several years. I am a 60+ male who agreed to share the housework with my wife.I have been used to Hoover and Eureka uprights for years. I have had tennis elbow for a year and the vacuuming doesn't help matters. I finally told my wife that it was time to investigate a better solution. Thus i researched canisters.

I went to a website that reviews all major brands. I even called the carpet dealer who installed our 2 year old plush frize wall to wall. He recommended a dyson which he said works great for he and his two dogs. I researched some more and decided to risk the big chunk of cash( my wife and I are both retired)on the Titan. I got the cleaner today .What a joy and the ease of use is amazing.IT feels like a piece of quality workmanship! It is very powerful and I ran it on the lowest setting which included the tile, low rugs and the wall to wall. I let my wife try it and she said she liked it.I took someone's suggestion of putting fragrent oil on a cotten ball and letting the vacuum have it.Now our house feels clean and smells fresh!

The person who complained about the heavy wand, why not try the heavy eureka boss for "heavy." I feel that i will now enjoy my job of vacuuming. And it is a great deal quieter than my Eureka!

So thanks Miele and Amazon.I will recommend to all my friends!

Just received the twist. It works great. It picks up the debris nicely and it works well as you go from floor to carpet. It's a little heavier than I expected and a little louder because of the powerful motor. I think it's relatively quiet compared to the central vacuum I used in the past as well. I would recommend this vacuum to others. Solid construction, easy to twist and get around all the furniture.

I just purchased the Miele Twist and I know how these reviews are important to me, so I hope that I can help someone esle who is considering the Miele S7 series (any model).
I researched the motors as I was told by the salesperson that the "Twist" has a cheaper motor than the Salsa, etc. This is not true. They all have the same motor - look at Miele's website. The $100 difference is the filter and headlight. You can purchase the better filter and put it in the Twist and have the same machine without the light.
I debated on purchasing off of the web, so I could save money. In my research I found that Authorized Dealers DO NOT honor the warranty if purchased from the web!!! So buyer beware. Upon purchasing and giving it a test run, when I went to use the hose attachment it came out of the machine before I could even stretch it to full length, which is really NOT very far, if you like to vac high places - forget it. The hose attachment is much like a dryer vent.

Bottom line:
The Miele Twist is VERY easy to vac with and because it is on a petite side it can get to many little places and the swivel future is wonderful. It vacuums well, however, going over the same area with my old Riccar, I could hear it picking up debris that apparently the Miele missed. I think this machine is good, however, I think there are others that might be better for the price. I rate it a 3 star.

After having gone through an Oreck, a Hoover and a Dyson, I finally have a vacuum cleaner that has quality construction and controls. I love the "twist" part, it makes getting into corners very easy. The hose is very easy to use (especially in comparison to the Dyson).
I am a little old lady with a very bad back. I have no problem using my Miele. It does a great job on getting up pet hair and in this house a vacuum cleaner has to handle pet hair from two cats and two dogs. I actually enjoy vacuuming with my "Twist", my house has not been this clean in years.

I was all set to love this vacuum. It has so many great reviews and I have friends that love their Miele's but it seems they all mostly have wood/tile/linoleum floors.
Unfortunately my whole apt is carpet, not deep carpet by any means, and I have an Alaskan Malamute who I love dearly and shed's quite a bit. Straight out of the box with the floor attachment it comes with it was truly exhausting to vacuum my whole apt. I spent about an hour, going over every area at least ten times or more from all angles, and there is still some fur on the floor. My last roommate had a simple Kenmore Progressive vac and I could do the whole apt in about 20 minutes and do a much, much better job. I wish I had listened to the one review I read that said it was a bad choice for carpets especially if you have pets.
I am aware that for around $150 you can get a different floor attachment that supposedly works a little better for carpet and pets but this vacuum wasn't really in my budget to begin with and I don't know that the other attachment will still really be able to handle my dogs level of shedding. Personally I think if you are going to spend this much on a vacuum you shouldn't need to purchase an attachment that costs the same as another vacuum just to get the performance you are used to from a $60 upright.
So I will be returning this vacuum and purchasing something else. If you want a quiet vacuum and you don't have carpets/rugs and/or you don't have pets then you will probably like this vacuum very much.

I bought this vacuum as a gift for my grandparents who have long had to put up with a vacuum that simply couldn't do its job anymore. I heard alot about the Miele brand but was not entirely sure if its as great as it claims to be. After a few chats over the telephone, my grandparents have had nothing but glowing things to say about this little sucker. Below I will share how it filled their specific needs as well as some of the minor negatives you should be aware of...
(To skip to the main points, simply read the headers of each section.)

THE GOODS:
Its a Featherweight-My grandma has long been an old school fan of wand vacuums. No matter how light an upright vacuum advertised itself, she remarked that they are simply too heavy for her. She absolutely loves how lightweight this vacuum is and how easily the cannister follows her. There is hardly any need to yank it to make it travel around her apartment.

Turbo Jet Suction-As I mentioned so boldly in the title, this thing sucks up dirt particles like a jet engine! My grandmother has always kept a tidy carpet but she still believes this vacuum catches debris better than any other she has used. I must say I agree, as her carpet looks fluffier and more pristine.
Hums Along Silently-I'm not sure when the day will come when vacuums will be more silent than a mouse but relatively speaking, this one is pretty close to quiet as they come. My grandmother really dislikes how noisy vacuums not only disturb others but blast out your ears as you are using them. She is very pleased with how meekly and politely this one performs its job.
Bag it and Trash it-One of the greatest pluses about this vacuum is how great the bag traps in dirt. The old vacuum my grandma use to have was one of those bagless ones. She is somewhat sensitive to dust and coughed quite a bit when she emptied the dirt container. This one is very simple for her to remove and throw away without suffering.

THE BADS:
Better for Small/Medium Homes-While my grandmother pretty much said nothing but good things about this product, its generally understood that these kind of vacuums may not be the best options for bigger homes. Personally I hope we get a Miele for ourselves someday despite this fact. The only thing I would suggest is to perhaps stock up on more bags just to be safe.

Quality of Material-This is one of the bargain Miele models and therefore the parts don't look as spiffy as the more upscale Mieles. Still though, a few scuff marks after use should not cause you to think this was made out of completely bad material. It'll just be more likely to show its battle scars.

Hose/Cord is Short-Though my grandmother has a small apartment, I can tell the hose and cord on this machine is too short. This drawback is significantly amplified if you combine it with the "Better for Small/Medium Homes" issue. So be prepared to switch wall outlets on a regular basis or buy a nice lengthy extension cord.
At the end of the day, this vacuum is a poster child for little workhorses. It packs alot of power in such a petite package. Not to mention its small stout frame is as adorable as a puppy dog. You certainly will not regret adopting one for your household.

"Good Vacuum For NYC Apartments" 2010-08-30

I bought this vacuum because I was moving and my last vacuum (probably more than 20 years old) was on it's very last leg.

When I first received it, I was very surprised by it's size. It's tiny, compared with my old vacuum, and much lighter.

As one might expect, the weight advantage does come at a price, and the components feel very plastic-y and somewhat flimsy, though time will tell whether the plastic parts withstand general wear-and-tear over the years.

The size of the unit is also very helpful in a small Manhattan apartment, as storage is less of an issue than with a larger unit. This vacuum will tuck neatly into a small corner in a closet with no trouble. The only clumsy part of the whole kit is that there is no real storage for the attachments. They do include a little holder for the four pieces that come with the unit, but it's rather flimsy and also awkward to place.

As far as performance, this little unit really does stand up well, with very good suction all around. I think it's also slightly quieter than my old vacuum. The floor attachment does a very good job on the wood floors, as well as the tile in the kitchen and bath. The only other complaint that I have with the unit is the poor placement and function of the power button. It's at the rear or bottom of the unit (depending upon how you're placing it), and it's not an easy click because of the curved contour of the switch. It also doesn't give a pronounced "click" to confirm activation, so you have to listen for the start of the motor to know if you've actually hit it right or not, and there's a slight delay in the start up, so there's a disconcerting disconnect between the action and the expected result.

These are small nitpicks, in my opinion, and I would certainly recommend this unit to anyone considering a small, affordable vacuum.

"Motor Failed Twice inside of first 6 months" 2010-08-28

Indeed the Miele is lightweight, powerful, quiet, and effective. However 4 months after purchase, the motor failed on the unit and I was without a vacuum for over a week while it was repaired. It seemed like it must have been a fluke as the unit continued to perform excellently upon repair.
Two months later, the motor failed again.
This time I questioned the store owner about the reliability of the unit, and suggested I receive compensation in the form of a refund or a new vacuum since it was still under warranty. The store owner balked at the idea, and insinuated I must be abusing the vacuum for it to have so many problems. However the Miele was mainly doing light work, a few times a week, on hard wood floors. It certainly wasn't being "abused."

Upon return from its second repair, 3 months have passed and the unit has not yet failed again. However its effectiveness is not what it was when it was new. Cleaning takes longer, and it just doesn't sound like it is functioning at 100%. There are no clogs in the hoses. Clearly it is an internal problem.
As much as I wanted to turn my back on the lousy Hoovers and other vacuums which normally adorn the big box stores, the Miele canister was an unreliable failure in my experience. I won't purchase another Miele.

"Has its Pros and Cons" 2010-08-19

Bought my Miele Capri from seller "Mr.Vac & Mrs.Sew". It came on time and brand new as stated. The Capri model is the same as the Olympus, except it also comes with the air powered brush head.

Pros

1. The vacuum itself is fairly light weight (not counting the hose and head), weighing in at 10.25 lbs, even my 75 yr old mother can carry it fairly easily. Seems well made and durable. 1200 watts provides pretty good suction, maybe an extra 200 watts would be better, but still good enough as is.

2. Motor is pretty quiet, even at highest speed, most of the noise is coming from the suction.

3. Can install an optional HEPA filter.

4. Bag looks quit large and should hold a good amount of dirt.

5. Bought the Capri model, it is essentially the same as the Olympus, except that it comes with the air powered turbo spinning brush head instead and a bare floor head with brush (not spinning). The spinning brush head is definitely a must have, if you have carpet and want it to pick up long hair and dirt that is slightly buried into the carpet, it also does help fluff up the carpet. Even though the head is air powered, the brush spins quit fast and is very effective, unless you have very thick carpeting, then you may want to opt for their other models with an electric powered brush head

6. Vacuum rolls easily, when pulled by the hose.

7. The metal wand, the piece that attaches in between the handle and the cleaning tool, is telescopic, so you can shorten it to half the length if needed.

Cons

1. Hose is 5 feet in length, which is a bit short, would have been nice to have an extra 2 feet.

2. Hose feels cheaply made, may have to be careful, incase if the hose is twisted, and it is pulled on hard enough, it may kink and damage the hose.

3. The handle tube is completely made of pretty durable thick plastic, but is quit curved and long, from where one would grip it, to the tip of the tube where you would attach a cleaning tool is about 12 inches. If you have a small cleaning attachment mounted, and need to get into a tight area, you may need to really hold it in an awkward angle to get in those tight spots, since your gripping hand will be approximately 12 inches away from the cleaning tool, so imagine that. This part should have been a lot shorter.

4. The clip that holds the three small cleaning attachments, can be clipped on to the base of the hose, by the vacuum or the other end of the hose by the handle. I do not like it at either end, would have been nice if they made it so that the three tools can either mount onto the back, or the top of the vacuum instead. Providing options would be nice.

Conclusion

Don't mind paying $399 for something that is intended to be used for many years, I think the price is a bit steep, but I guess you are paying for a German product. Again, the spinning brush head is a must for people with carpet. If you have carpet, save the extra $30, because you will end up buying the air powered turbo brush head later separately for $129. At this price, they could have used a better quality and slightly longer hose. Regarding the long handle, I guess I can learn to get use to it, but they REALLY should make it shorter. If it was not for the long handle and hose issue, this would have easily been a 5 star.

This vacuum has all the features one really needs to keep house & car clean. From a long enough cable over adjustable power (while operating at a very low noise level - even at the highest power setting you can talk on the phone) to smart little things like a holder for hose and tools on the side of the vacuum. So when you stand it upright you just hook the hose into it and it sort of becomes one unit, such avoiding clutter when storing it.

This vacuum seems to suck out all the dirt from anything you put it on. I don't have pets so can't make a call w.r.t. pet hair (pls see other reviews for this), but my house is cleaner than ever before -- I have a mix of carpet, linoleum and hardwood floors. I haven't had a need for the rotating brush yet, as even w/o it the carpets gets clean. The brushes are very flexible and easy to navigate as well. And you can easily vacuum below bed, couch etc., where no Dyson etc. would take you.

Since my vacuum died, partly due to multiple not too careful users, I needed a new one. This was strongly recommended by someone who uses several different vacuums and who liked Miele best of all, due to ease of use and longevity. (the deceased lasted maybe 2 yrs) It was located easily and delivered post haste(at the price it should have come in cloth-of-gold) Stories of reliability,sturdiness, and ease of use together are the prospective trade off for the ridiculous price. On investigating, I found the entire model range has the same motor, the difference between models being features. Some of these are useful, some only costly-a matter of personal opnion and depth of pocket. That said, I thought it was particularly cheesy, this being a mid range model, that a power head is not included and must be purchased as an extra. I would feel it was cheesy even with the base model. Very bad move in my opinion.

Great suction power. Tools are well designed with swivelling angles to the heads. The manual turn dial is easy. Small and light. The clip-on holder for the telescoping wand makes this easy to hoist around the house. It is quiet. The retractable cord is pure genius. So is the HEPA filter.
Design-wise, I prefer the old Miele design better. This S4 series has no bumpers around the edge, the accessory tools are not "on-board" (i.e. integrated into canister) but clips onto the telescoping wand which can get awkward. I guess curvy designs are in, but I'm not a fan of the zeitgeisty bubbly designs. The old boxy configuration is more my taste.

NOTE: If you have high-pile, thick carpeting in the house consider purchasing a Miele with an electric hose. This particular model is for tile, parquet floors and light carpeting - the hose attachment has no electric wire so the floor tools are not powered electrically.

I had been through about three $100-$150 vacuums and finally had it. We broke down and bought this machine and, oh, I am in love. As a rule, vacuuming is not something for one to get excited about, but this changes everything! We have all hardwood floors and plenty of dogs-- a combination to make most tidy people shudder. We put a HEPA filter in and we are good to go. I don't keep the attachments on-board, as I agree with the previous reviewer that it is slightly awkward. But you will not be disappointed with the power. The varying degrees of suction are great, and the vacuum is very, very maneuverable. I can reach under and around almost everything in the house! I was also blown away by how quiet this machine is! This little blue bug is a great addition to our family. We've had it for just over a year now and it shows no signs of slowing down.

I am 66 yrs old and have been using a vacuum (Hoover, Electrolux & everything in between)for nearly 50 years. This is by far the easiet, best suction, certainly nice looking and I can actually pick this one right up and take upstairs! This was one of the best decisions I've made. The cost should not even be a factor, especially if you have tile and carpet which I do. I have NO complaints whatsoever. Hope I've helped in your decision.

I'm torn. I have a Miele Orion and I like it very well so far, but I have had problems with the radio frequency controls on the handle. In my case, the battery would drain every two weeks or so. I took it back to the shop and they were able to swap out the part for a new one under warranty.
The new handle part has a modified design. Formerly, the buttons for power and suction stood just a little bit proud of the handle, and now, on the new part, there is a molded ridge around the buttons. I suspect that the original design allowed the buttons to get pressed inadvertently while the vac stood in a crowded closet, which caused the battery to drain.
I don't know if Miele made other, internal changes to the design, but the new part is working well so far. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, because I like the vacuum otherwise. It might be safer to choose a different Miele S4 model because of the RF control problems, but, on the other hand, I really appreciate the convenience of the handle-mounted controls.

This is the only Miele S4 Galaxy I have ever repaired. I have repaired several Miele Orions. They all have the same problem. The radio controlled hose controls. This technology is new, and has had problems since day one. They all have been warranty repairs so far, but expensive parts after warranty period. Great cleaning, but some major technology problems in the hose. The antenna for the radio controlled hose also has some issues. The antenna will bend over and point down, which causes difficulty when trying to change the speeds up and down, and turning the vacuum on/off from the hose can be challenging as well. Best idea is to avoid this canister.

I bought this vacuum today and tryed it at home - great suction on carpet, removed all pet hair from my long heared German Sheperd, but.....after 10min. of vacuuming the wheels broke appart - it appear to be assembled w/o a spring washer which to keep them on place. Now I have to go to Bad,bath and beyond and exchange it...Hassle again...Otherwise, it was assembled in Germany should be a spotless machine!

Reviews of vacuums in the first year or two are only partially valid. To understand quality and evaluate the durability of a product several years should have passed. In this case I am reviewing a Miele 175i Powerhouse upright vacuum cleaner purchased this about 5 years ago. It looks just like the S183 but to be honest there are probably some differences

We found the Miele to be well designed and easy to use. Unfortunately by the mid third year parts started to break and fall off of it. Furthermore, while adequately powerful at the start, it lost its vacuuming power over time. After five years of use I am looking for a replacement.\

Miele asks the consumer to pay a premium (we paid $375). However, given the poor durability I would recommend consumers to look elsewhere for a vacuum.

I bought this on Amazon from Mr. Vacuum and Ms. Sew to replace my Hoover wind tunnel. I have had two Hoover wind tunnels that have lasted an average of 3-4 years. Before that I had a Eureka vacumn cleaner.

I bought this vacuum based on the review of others and the expected life of this vacuum cleaner. I haven't had much opportunity to use the vacuum so far, but I noticed a big plus is the noise level is much quieter than any of my previous vacuum cleaners. The wand can be adjusted which is a great plus. My husband made the comment that after I am done cleaning the house the air does not smell like dust. I also like the different levels to set the suction power and the retractable cord.

I will update this rating as I use the various features.

We thought long and hard before spending this much money for a vacuum. But, the rave reviews on MANY websites finally convinced us to buy the Miele S5281 Pisces vacuum. We had gone through several other vacuums, costing $300-$400 each, all of which met with a seemingly early demise. We are definitely not hard on vacuums and probably don't run them often enough!

The Miele vacuum is everything we thought it would be and more. It is about 1/2 the weight of our old vacuum and the design of the wheels make it VERY easy to pull around. The non-electric rug brush works very well, without pulling threads out of our rugs (like our old vacuum did). The parquet twister floor brush is a delight to use and allows access to many small areas we were unable to reach with our old vacuum. Our whole-house vacuuming time has been reduced about 30% by not having to continually change to small brushes for reaching those areas.

But, the BEST thing about the Miele is how VERY quit it is. We used to have to wear hearing protection with our other vacuum. The Miele is VERY quiet, even on its highest suction setting and just a whisper on the lowest setting.

Yes, the Miele line of vacuums is expensive. But, as with most things, you get what you pay for. They have well thought out designs and are built to last. If your budget will allow, you will NOT regret purchasing one of their vacuums.

This vacuum is great. The only drawback is that the wheels in the back are not rolling on to an area rug very easy. I like the long cord. It is built like a Porsche!
